Fashion Inspo Board #2: Chic In The City

One of my favorite quotes is, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have”.

I’ve fallen in to a bit of a fashion rut when it comes to career wear and I chalk it up to the fact that I’m relatively content in the job department.  For the most part I work by myself in a private office within a larger building that itself has a dress code.  I like to teeter on the bottom end of that dress code sticking with a mostly “business casual” uniform of black pants, black flats and some flowy top that hides my tummy.

But I decided that it’s time to reset my wardrobe and start dressing like a professional.  I have a college degree after all but you wouldn’t know it if you saw me on the street.  I wanted to create a look that would transition from meeting to cocktails after work.  Think “Sex and the City” 2016.    I tend to wear a lot of black and this look lets me wander out of my comfort zone a bit while still having that “security blanket” of my favorite (slimming) color.

I first fell in love with this YSL bag and wanted to build an outfit around it.  I selected pieces that were classic and sophisticated and that can be worn year after year without going out of style.  I already own this scarf and thought it would be a perfect addition to add a little warmth as the weather TRIES to cool off.  Also, it’s so soft and cozy!  The dress is an investment but it’s so flattering but is still a departure from the classic black career dress.  Silver accessories and red nails and lips tie everything together.
