Top 5 Movies To Get In The Mood For Halloween
It’s getting to be that time of year when I start watching my favorite Halloween movies. Most of these are quite old but they’re total classics. Here are my top 5 pics that are sure to get you in the Halloween spirit!
Probably my favorite on the list, Harry Potter – The Complete Collection is a fall staple. Actually, I watch it year round but I especially love to watch the entire series around Halloween. Light some candles, brew up some butter beer (recipe coming soon) and snuggle under a cozy blanket. Accio remote!
With the recent passing of Gene Wilder, I was reminded of how much I truly love this movie. Still one of the funniest movies of all time. Gene Wilder is hilarious as Froedrick Frankenstein, Dr. Viktor Frankenstein’s nephew, who does not support his uncle’s obsession with the reanimation of dead tissue. He inherits his Uncle’s estate after his passing which includes his castle and laboratory (pronounced “la-BOAR-a-tory”). His life becomes forever changed.
“Heeeere’s JOHNNY”! Jack Nicholson is terrifying as Jack Torrance, the troubled, recovering alcoholic protagonist who carts his family to the “Overlook Hotel” in Colorado to act as caretaker while the hotel is shut down for the winter. The only problem is, the hotel has a history and personality of its own. I wouldn’t recommend watching this right before bedtime.
Halloween isn’t Halloween without the MOVIE Halloween. Every October 1st my ring tone is immediately changed to the Halloween Theme Song. Once again, my favorite version is the original because it represents the quintessential slasher flick of the 70’s. Michael Myers was the perfect villain: deliciously psychotic and terrifyingly mysterious. This is definitely THE movie to watch on Halloween night with nothing but candles lit. Make sure all your doors and windows are locked and don’t forget to shut your blinds…Michael is a bit of a peeping Tom.
Probably the first movie to ever scare the shit out of me, “The Amityville Horror” is one of those movies that you a) don’t watch alone (dogs count as company) and b) don’t watch right before bed. I know they remade this movie with Ryan Reynolds, I’m not mad at that, but I think this is my favorite version. I think because it’s very authentic to the true story its based on. If you like haunted house stories and to basically be scared senseless, this is right up your street!
